You can make a reservation at The Groves in many ways...
Welcome!
The Groves is located in the beautiful North Yorkshire city of York.
Set on a peaceful tree lined cul-de-sac, The Groves
is a pleasant ten minute walk from the centre of York.
We can offer you comfortable Bed & Breakfast accommodation in
our bedrooms as well as a guest lounge and bar. Our friendly
staff are on hand each day until about 10pm to ensure
that we cater to your needs.
We have a large spacious car park allowing you to leave your car behind and explore all
of York's sights and sounds on foot. There's also a free
wi-fi (in most of the main building).
The Groves is made up of three buidlings that surround our
private courtyard car park - The Groves, York House, and The
Cottage.
We think, like us, you''ll appreciate the fact that we are not a 'square box' kind of place to stay. Each of our rooms differs in size and location and we would certainly like to think that we can offer you a more personal service throughout your stay with us.
Each of our 20 bedrooms has a private ensuite and within this we have a
ground floor accessible twin room, pet friendly rooms, and
ground floor rooms - please contact us directly to
enquire about any of these very popular rooms.
History
Although not a listed building, The Groves dates back to the 1900s and was originally built by William Pentey, who was of some importance in the late Victorian period. The structure was commissioned by a Leeds tobacconist who wanted to expand his business by using the River Ouse to deliver tobacco to his customers.
During the First and Second World Wars, the building was apparently used by the army paymasters.
The property was later sold and developed into the Savages Hotel. It has for the last few years been used as a training centre by ECS until May 2009 when it was purchased by its current owner occupiers.
Two additional buildings were added in the 80s/90s - 'The Cottage' & 'York House' which were originally built as a private residence but are now guest bedrooms.
Today, the building still retains some charming original features, such as the splendid staircase and leaded windows throughout.
