have new superb deep mattress Airsprung bedzzzzz, large
multi-channel flat screen TVs, pleasant decor and new ensuite
bathrooms.
We provide FREE CAR PARKING and a generous FREE
BREAKFAST. However, if you want to make the maximum use
of your time in York, then a modest parking charge of £3.50 is
levied to park all day on departure day. A Wi-Fi is available for a flat

We have a lounge bar to relax and unwind after a day soaking
up all the fascinating history and culture of York. We have 2 cycles for hire too!
The Groves offers super accommodation and service in the main
building, The Cottage and York House. The main building
is the only William Pentey designed building remaining in
private ownership and retains some interesting late Victorian features
both internally and externally. As such rooms come in
all shapes and sizes and we allocate as fairly as possible
dependant upon length of stay and tariff paid. If your
budget allows we recommend taking a larger room if your stay
is over 3 days or travelling long haul. However all rooms are most comfortable
if on a restricted budget too.
If mobility is an issue, as we have no lift to the 2 floors, we
do have ground floor rooms, including an accessible room - please contact us
regarding these.
We believe we offer the the most competitive tariffs and are proud of
the quality of accommodation and fine service provided.
THIS IS OUR OWN WEBSITE, and as such, the BEST RATES are GUARANTEED by BOOKING ONLINE. You will not find lower rates elsewhere!
Also EMAIL or TELEPHONE US for these GUARANTEED BEST RATES !!
Please note that in our efforts to provide a true 'tranquility
in the city centre' setting, we regret that
The Groves is not suitable for
children under 5 years old, nor for
stag/hen parties or those wanting to party hard into the night
(or early morning!).
History
The Groves dates back to the 1896 and was originally built by William Pentey, who was of some importance in the late Victorian period. The structure was commissioned by a Leeds tobacconist who wanted to expand his business in York by using the River Ouse to deliver tobacco to his customers.
During the First and Second World Wars, the building was used by the army paymasters for accommodating office based soldiers.
In 1958 the property was sold and developed into Savages Hotel. Since 2002 when re-named The Groves it was used as a training centre by ECS. In May 2009 it was purchased by the current experienced owner operators.
Two additional buildings were added in the 80s/90s - 'The Cottage' & 'York House' which were originally built as a private residences but are now further lovely guest bedrooms.
Today, the building retains some charming original features, such as the splendid staircase and leaded windows throughout.
